Except for the lemon, this pie is what my wife's grandmother would have called "Chess Pie." Eggs, sugar, butter, buttermilk.

I am totally GOOD with the blender and frozen shell trick! In fact, the filling comes together so quickly that it almost seems weird to spend that much time fussing with a crust. But, I have to say that the cornmeal crust is very well behaved for those inclined to give it a shot. But yes, I think this one is very, very well suited to the short cut, too. Love you, Betty! And, I can't wait to figure out a time to get together to hear all about your trip to Haiti. I am lucky to be the niece of a woman like you (and the others, too, of course)...pies, mothering, bravery, common sense, brilliance...I just like throwing your names around because it reminds me about what a great family I have. (and that goes for you, too, Jeff!!)

Kelly,

I love you too, darlin'. Jeff probably didn't mention that I throw everything in a blender, whiz for a second or two, and pour it in a frozen crust. I justify this laziness believing it shouldn't take longer to make it than it takes for it to disappear. Your method sounds much more thoughtful and elegant.

Kisses, Aunt Betty

PS - I did NOT make the buttermilk pie at Thanksgiving. Jeff declined to eat the other 4 desserts I made stating "No thanks, I'll wait till Christmas".

Okay, you have convinced me that this should be my dessert for Bunco Thursday night. I will have to bake two pies and I may even do the crust. Sounds yummy and I need a first piece of pie gitter. I will have to check her website.

I, too, grew up thinking pancakes came out of the yellow box. I recently decided to start trying to make real, actual pancakes, so I've been scoping out and trying different recipes. I've always had fond memories of cottage pancakes, so I went looking for a recipe on PInterest and decided to try these. Yum! I'm eating my first attempt right now and they are delicious! Thanks!

Hi Kelly!
Good thing you've also told me a great way to eat kheema masala. Hummus and naan sound a like a perfect match but feel free to call me philistine - tuck between two nice slices of toast with a dollop of sour cream might be pretty tasty as well. ;)

Cheers,
Tobias

Kelly - You're entering a wonderful realm of flavors. My Seattle/New Zealand daughter cooks like this all the time, and every time I visit her I swear I will do more of it, but don't very often, unfortunately. Good for you for branching out into an incredible and delicious cuisine.

Barbi, check out the links at the bottom of the post. If you cannot find Garam Masala in WF, I bet you can find all of the component spices (you may already have them) and whip up your own custom batch. Don't forget to make the hummus, too.
